In this series entitled” Faith that Pleases God”, we have looked at how faith is defined; we spoke about how we need to have faith in our Creator and last week we talked about the faith of Abel for which he was declared “righteous”.
This week, as we continue down the Hall of Faith examining the lives of the faithful, we look at the life of Enoch. Enoch was the 7th generation from Adam and the great grandfather of Noah. But the writer of Hebrews commends him for his profound faith.
Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
What was it about Enoch’s faith the was so remarkable that God decided to translate him directly to heaven without dying? The Bible says in Genesis 5 that he walked with God. He understood the depths of a Purity of faith that was required to walk in intimacy with the Father. He also had a Prophetic walk of faith in that he understood the Word of God that had been revealed to him about the coming flood that would happen after the death of his son Methuselah; and also, the coming judgment that will occur with the second coming of Christ as conveyed by his words in the book of Jude. And his faith had Power; he was airlifted into the presence of God without dying and many believe that he will be one of the 2 powerful witnesses who will return to earth in Revelation 11. Enoch is a profound and remarkable example of a faith that pleases God.
