“Man of War”

We are continuing with our series entitled “Israel: “God's timepiece.” Prophecy is being fulfilled that will count down to the return of Christ and the nation of Israel will be in the center of it.

So today we're looking at some more Biblical prophecy, and I want to look at Isaiah.

Isaiah 42:13 The Lord shall go forth like a mighty man; He shall stir up His zeal like a man of war. He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud; He shall prevail against His enemies.

This is the unveiling of Jesus as our hero….this is the Lord when He returns. Some translations interpret the phrase “Mighty Man” as “hero.” It says that the Lord will go forth like a Superhero, He's coming to rescue His people - the nation of Israel.

The Bible says that He is going to stir up his zeal like a man of war. You don't go into battle unless you're mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually prepared. In His first Advent when he came to earth, He got stirred up a few times. You know what Him fired up? The hypocrisy of the religious system of the Pharisees - He went into the temple twice and cleared out the money changers who would make their fortune on the religious system. He was zealous for the house of God. He was zealous to complete the mission that God had given Him. The Bible says He set His face like flint as He walked into Jerusalem – and, He's going to stir up his zeal again - because Jesus is a “Man of war.”

I get the picture of William Wallace, the “Braveheart” and his army before the battle. Getting themselves psyched up for battle and intimidating their foe. The Bible says He shall cry out, He shall shout out loud. That's in contrast to the way He first came the first time – the Bible says He didn’t make a fuss or raise His voice or get a loud speaker system to broadcast in the streets -  He didn't get a CNN interview - but when He comes again He will shout! When He comes at His second coming with His church after Him, it'll be with a shout; as He takes vengeance over His enemies. It will be a war cry!

The first time He came in obscurity as a baby but the second time, the Bible says, that every eye will behold Him and they will look on Him whom they have pierced.

Revelation 1:7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.
