“Restoring The Sanctified Life” Sunday, 20 February 2022 10:00 a.m.
We are continuing our series on the book of Haggai entitled: “Bring Back the Glory.” Last week, we talked about this about-to-be rebuilt temple in terms of future, prophetic events that will take place that will be magnificent, glorious, and earth-shaking. God is telling these people that this Temple, this house that they're beginning to work on again may look like nothing compared to the former but future Glory is coming. Because it will be the place that the Messiah will come to.
So now the prophet Haggai is speaking again to these people about their need for sanctification: to be set apart unto God. They have obeyed the voice of the Lord and they have started to rebuild the Temple, and that's good. But the prophet wants to tell them that this is not a one-shot deal. It's not just about obeying once to build the temple; this is an ongoing moment-by-moment walk with God where they need to live by the Spirit and obey the truth of the word of God.
God is again calling on them to consider the outcomes of their lives before they started to rebuild the temple; and to ask themselves the question: Was there any blessing? They may have considered their poor harvests bad luck or an off season, but God is telling them something different.
Haggai 2:17 I (God) struck you with blight and mildew and hail in all the labors of your hands; yet you did not turn to Me,’ says the Lord.
The people had placed themselves under a curse for disobedience, but God, through the prophet, wanted to encourage them to look ahead at the blessing they would enjoy because of their ongoing obedience.
Haggai 2: 18 ‘Consider now from this day forward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day that the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid—consider it: 19 Is the seed still in the barn? As yet the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yielded fruit. But from this day I will bless you.’ ”
There are three things that Haggai is pointing out to the people here that they can do if they want to walk in obedience and have the sanctified life of the spirit that God wants for them. Purpose in your heart, Plant in faith, Prepare for a harvest.
