“Scarlet Cord of Redemption”– Sunday ,20 June
We are continuing our study of Hebrews 11; we are concentrating on the heroes who had to overcome obstacles… they were stuck in a rut of survival but God caused them to thrive!
This week, we are studying the life of Rahab, a woman who the writer of Hebrews calls a harlot; but in spite of her past, she has a great future because of her faith.
Hebrews 11: 31 By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.
Rahab, as the local brothel owner of Jericho, took in the 2 Israeli spies who were checking out the city which was soon to be conquered. But instead of ratting them out, she hid them because of her faith. And because of that, they told her to hang the scarlet cord out her window so she and her family would be saved when the city was destroyed.
The scarlet cord is the symbol of redemption that runs through the Bible. It speaks of a Pledge that we will be redeemed; the Power to be redeemed and it is a Plea to those who need to be redeemed.
