"Show Me Your Glory"

We are continuing the series that we have started: “Teach your Children Well,” and the first thing that we want to teach them is how to love God. Last week we talked about Moses making a request of God that the Lord will come with the people on this journey to the Promised Land…and the Lord replies:           “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Now at this juncture, Moses says something bold and profound to the Lord …. he says in effect that I need to see You; I need to behold You. To get a glimpse of the glory of the Lord is to realize His holiness, majesty and beauty; and at same time to be very aware of our own sinfulness.

Moses, having cultivated this life of seeking the Lord; and desiring to stay in the presence of the Lord, now wants to go the distance. He wants to see the glory of the Lord. Let's read about it.

Exodus 33:18 And he (Moses) said, “Please, show me Your glory.” 19 Then He (Lord) said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you.

What does it mean to see the beauty of the Lord? What happens when we desire to get a glimpse of the glory of God…is that even possible? Moses had already seen spectacular manifestations of the presence of God. He had witnessed the burning bush; he had been God’s instrument to bring about the 10 plagues. He was there at the Red Sea that opened and the people crossed on dry ground. He was on Mt. Sinai more recently to receive the Ten Commandments where God descended in a thick cloud; there was fire and smoke and the mountain shook.

To see the glory of God is to understand the nature, the character, the holiness, and the beauty of the Lord Jesus...do you know Him? It's not about seeking a spiritual manifestation, for the sake of goosebumps…they come and go…but when we “Turn our Eyes” upon Jesus and look full in His wonderful face, then things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.
