The Body of Christ - Part 8 "Take the Name"

Good Morning First Baptist families...I trust that you are well today...I am praying for you!

We are continuing our series on “The Body of Christ” this week as we discuss “Take the Name.” Last week we spoke of the fact that we are a “holy nation.” This week we are talking about the church being God’s “own special people”. 1 Peter 2: 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, “His own special people”.………

The nation of Israel, that God redeemed from slavery in Egypt are described by God Himself as His special people; His treasured possession. If you put it in terms of a marriage covenant, God had “courted” them as a nation; He had literally swept her away by carrying her out of captivity and put her on the road to freedom. But now in the book of Deuteronomy, God is proposing through Moses that the nation finally enter into the marriage contract; to “Make the vow and Take the Name”!

Deut 26:17 Today you have proclaimed the Lord to be your God, and that you will walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments, and His judgments, and that you will obey His voice. 18 Also today the Lord has proclaimed you to be His special people, just as He promised you.

We too, as God’s holy nation are His special people. We call ourselves by His Name, “Christians”; which literally means “of those who belong to Christ, or “little Christs.” We take His Name and understand that there is a great responsibility in doing so.

Join us on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. for “Take the Name”; or join us via livestream at https://www.firstbaptistsudbury.com. Don’t forget to turn your clocks back an hour on Saturday night!

Take heart and be blessed;

Pastor Kevin
