“The Body’s DNA”

We started a series last week talking about the body of Christ called “The Body Works.”  Last week we talked about the Director of the body who is Jesus.  Today I want to talk about the DNA of the body… as most of you know DNA is the molecule that carries genetic information for the development and functioning of the body.

There is a DNA that is specific to the Body of Christ, it is the Holy Spirit, it is a specific and essential component of the Body. Without it you can't really identify yourself as being part of the Body. Jesus made that clear when He talked to Nicodemus - He said you must be born again, the Holy Spirit must reside within your spirit for you to be in the Body of Christ.

Now Jesus for 40 days after the resurrection was preaching and teaching His disciples, as many as 500 disciples at one time. He was preparing His church to be launched following His return to heaven. He had given them the Great Commission found in Matthew 28 to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations!” So, He has authorized them to go but at the same time they need the power.

Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Don't go - without the Holy Spirit - He calls it the Promise of the Father. This Holy Spirit is the DNA of the church. It is the lifeblood, it is essential….  Jesus knew that His disciples needed the Holy Spirit. Without Him they would become fatigued, frustrated, and exhausted, but with Him they would be able to fulfill the mission of the church.

Join us in person on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. or via livestream by going to https://www.firstbaptistsudbury.com and clicking on livestream for “The Body’s DNA.”

Blessings, Kevin
