We are continuing with our series entitled “Israel: “God's timepiece.” Prophecy is being fulfilled that is counting down to the return of Christ and the nation of Israel will be in the center of it. So today I want to back up a couple of chapters to Daniel ch. 9 …. I want to put the work of the Antichrist in context in terms of the prophetic stopwatch that the Lord has that's counting down to His return. Biblical prophecy is taking place that is counting down to the Day of the Lord, His second coming, which will give way to a period known as the millennial Kingdom.
The first interesting thing that you see in Daniel 9 is that Daniel is very aware of prophecies that existed in his day with regards to the nation of Israel. …he understood that the 70 years of captivity in Babylon were about to end. He didn't have a fatalistic view, maybe it'll happen, maybe it won't, and he didn't have a passive view….he had an active spiritual view with regards to the prophecy of Jeremiah. He was actively seeking God's will with regards to fasting and prayer.
So as Daniel was praying, Gabriel flew in with an answer. Daniel wanted to know what was going to happen in the next few years… Gabriel gives him the full meal deal…. God's stop watch not only for the next few years but till the end of time.
Daniel 9:24 “Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy.
God has a plan and purpose for this world. He has a plan for the people of Israel and Jerusalem; there will be fulfillment! The nation of Israel may have their bucket list of what they want to accomplish but God’s plan and purposes are pre-determined.
Jeremiah 29:10 For thus says the Lord: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place. 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
You may have a bucket list of things you want to achieve, that's cool, but are you living for the day when He comes to reconcile all things? When our Lord returns to carry His bucket list?
