“Another in the Fire “Sunday, 21 November
This Sunday we will be continuing our series “Kingdoms in Conflict.” Last Sunday we spoke about the three Hebrew children who, when commanded by the king to bow down to the gold idol, gave this response to the king:” We have no need to answer you in this matter.” This says so many things in a short phrase. It says that they had appealed to a higher Court; we don't have to give an answer to you king, because ultimately, we’ve got to answer to God first and foremost. So, they put their trust in God: “He is able to deliver us and will deliver us.”
Sometimes we are delivered “from the fire” …God supernaturally rescues us from the trial that seems so imposing; sometimes we are delivered “through the fire”…we may not receive God’s deliverance in the temporal but He delivers us safely home; and sometimes God delivers us “in the fire”…that is, in the middle of our fiery trial, Jesus comes as the fourth man in the fire and grants us a supernatural deliverance.
Daniel 3:24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.” 25 “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”
Regardless of whether we are delivered From or Through or In the fiery trial, God promises always to walk with us: Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.3 For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior….
