“Clothed with Power”

I hope you are all getting a chance to enjoy these beautiful summer days! As a reminder to the family of Garson church, we are having our annual meeting tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m....of course all are invited to attend; there is some business that requires our attention including the 2021 budget, merger between Garson and Capreol churches, and the composition of the Board of Directors for this year. Attached is the Agenda for the meeting and also a document which is a prospectus for the merger between the 2 churches. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow night ! Below is the blog for this week's service:)

“Clothed with Power”– Sunday ,18 July

Last week we continued our study about Gideon; before He could do anything for God, the Lord needed to bring him to a place of examining his worship and challenging him to a life of “true worship”. To say that there is true worship insinuates that there may be false; and that is what the Lord wanted him to deal with.

This week I want to examine this aspect of being anointed to do the work of the ministry; of being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Judges 6: 34 But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon; then he blew the trumpet, and the Abiezrites gathered behind him.

Gideon experienced the power of the Holy Spirit..the phrase literally means that he was “clothed” with the Spirit of God. But in spite of this he had to deal with some issues of his “soul”; some doubts and insecurities before he could effectively defeat the enemies of Israel. Vs.36 so Gideon said to God, “If You will save Israel by my hand as You have said— 37 look, I shall put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor; if there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I shall know that You will save Israel by my hand, as You have said.”

The fleece represents the shearing of wool; at times we need to have doubts and fears removed… he placed it on the threshing floor; the place where the kernel through “brokenness” is separated from the husk… and then we experience the dew; the gentle rain of God’s presence.

Join us in person on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. or live stream by going to https://www.firstbaptistsudbury.com and clicking on live stream; for “Clothed with Power.”
