"Restoring The Kingdom"

We are completing our study this Sunday on the book of Haggai in this series entitled: “Bring Back the Glory.” We talked about the restoration of the temple…. God is telling these people that this Temple, this house that they're beginning to work on again may look like nothing compared to the former but future Glory is coming. Last week we spoke of God speaking to the people about the need to be separate as His people; the requirement of sanctification.

This amazing little prophetic book ends with a futuristic, prophetic look at the end times before Jesus comes to set up His millennial Kingdom. The prophet says some things that seem to be directed at the governor Zerubbabel, but in reality, the “governor” is representative of someone else who will come in his lineage who will be the King: namely Jesus Christ.

Haggai 2:20 And again the word of the Lord came to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying, 21“Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying: ‘I will shake heaven and earth.22 I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms; I will destroy the strength of the Gentile kingdoms. I will overthrow the chariots and those who ride in them; The horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.23 ‘In that day,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel My servant, the son of Shealtiel,’ says the Lord, ‘and will make you like a signet ring; for I have chosen you,’ says the Lord of hosts.”

The prophet speaks about a number of catastrophic events that are yet to come which will lead to the coronation of Jesus Christ in His millennial Kingdom. The heavens and earth will be shaken (as prophesied by John in Revelation 6 - great earthquakes); Thrones will be overthrown (specifically those of the Antichrist rulership in Revelation 17); Military powers will be annihilated (Zechariah 14), and God the Father will hand over authority to His Son – Jesus, who will rule and reign. (Daniel 7)
