Good morning to you all...what a beautiful fall day!
We are continuing our series on “The Body of Christ” this week as we discuss “The Crown and the Collar.” Last week we spoke of the royal blood that we have as believers, and this Sunday we will discuss the priesthood of believers.
1 Peter 2: 9 But you are a chosen generation, a “royal priesthood” ……… The clergy (or priesthood as it is known in some circles) has come under fire in recent years. It has faced harsh criticism, and justifiably so, for abuses, vices and excesses. But in spite of that, Peter says emphatically that we are a “royal” priesthood.
In the Old Testament the same condition existed relating to its spiritual leadership prompting the prophet Malachi to render a scathing rebuke against them. In Malachi ch.2, the prophet sets out the criteria for proper conduct as displayed by the holy priest of old; vs.6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and injustice was not found on his lips. He walked with Me in peace and equity, and turned many away from iniquity.7 “For the lips of a priest should keep knowledge, and people should seek the law from his mouth; For he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.
As New Testament priests we need to live Passionately for Jesus, Pronounce truthfully, walk Peaceably, Plead fervently, and Point faithfully to the Word of God.
