“Abiding with Anticipation” Sunday, 22 May 2022 10:00 a.m.
This week, we are taking a short break from the series to welcome a guest speaker: Matthew Soulliere. Matt will be speaking from this text found in Acts 1.
Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, He (Jesus) commanded them(disciples) not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Jesus was about proclaim to His followers the mission statement by which they would live their lives; the great commission…to go and be witnesses of Jesus’ death and resurrection to the ends of the earth. Jesus wanted them to go, but He also wanted them to stay; at least till they were empowered by the Holy Spirit. His instructions to them were clear; they must Abide (stay attached to Him), Abstain (from going out on their own strength), Anticipate (the coming of the Holy Spirit), and Agree (with the word that was prophesied by John the Baptist.
